About three years ago, I was working at a boutique and was fortunate enough to go to the New York Market to help pick out the clothing and accessories. It quickly became apparent to me that the fashion trends were very revealing and not God honoring. After coming back, I was having a conversation with my mother-in-law about our trip and how inappropriate the current fashion trends had gotten. We started brainstorming and praying and before we knew it, we thought up a business idea that would offer a solution to our small town.
Our mission was and is for the store to be more than just a place you do retail therapy, but a place showing Christ’s love as well. We are passionate about offering affordable and modest clothing however, our main goal is to have Gospel and Christ centered conversations here to point people to Christ. From the music, our attitude, and clothing, it is all encompassing what God designed for this store to be. We talked about the importance of sticking to our mission as our adventure continues even though we knew it would become harder and harder.
Since that night, many things had changed. My mother-in-law, Kris, was diagnosed with cancer shortly after this conversation. She fought a hard 18 months before going to be with Jesus. Even though we started this being the two of us, it quickly became my husband and I who were running this, but still God has provided 100% of the time. We have been able to build this business without any loans and opening a storefront WITH consistent hours!! This was a big answer to prayer as before, we were just doing pop up shops/events.
Looking back, I will be forever grateful for the experiences at the prior boutique to learn the skills I have now, my conversations and prayer time with Kris, the support from my family and husband, and of course the love and patience God has for someone like me.
